Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
The Shyness Clinic is a twelve week programme for overcoming shyness and improving your social skills. The methods used in the Clinic are grounded in cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) techniques.
What is cognitive behavioural therapy?
It is a psychotherapy that focuses on the present situation, rather than on the past, and on our current thinking styles, feelings and behaviour. It is based on the observation that the way we think about a situation affects how we feel about it and on how we act.
By changing thought, by “restructuring” negative and fearful cognitions, we can change the way we feel and the way we behave. Sometimes in this therapy we begin by altering behaviour, which in turn affects how we feel and how we think.
In cognitive-behavioural therapy we are working for measurable and MEANINGFUL change in a relatively short period of time, weeks or months, rather than years.
