History

The Clinic was established in San Francisco in 1992 by Walter Friedman MA, a practising psychotherapist, who observed that a surprisingly high percentage of his clients were suffering from an underlying social anxiety - regardless of why they originally came for treatment.

The Clinic was inspired by the pioneering work of Dr. Philip Zimbardo in diagnosing and treating shyness at the Stanford Shyness Clinic in Palo Alto, California. The London Shyness Clinic continues to use many aspects of the cognitive-behavioural model for treatment developed by Dr. Zimbardo.

Research has shown that a Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy group is the ONLY effective treatment for social anxiety which produces long-lasting and life-changing results.

The Shyness Clinic was established in London in 1998 and is the first and ONLY programme in the UK that provides a comprehensive, cognitive-behavioural group therapy approach to overcoming shyness and social anxiety.
